Action Alert - help us move the crime gun data analysis bill forward

Earlier this year, one of our longstanding legislative priorities, the crime gun data analysis bill, was voted favorably out of committee and moved on to the next step in the legislative process.

H.2437 /S.1562, An Act relative to crime gun data reporting and analysis, sponsored by Rep. Decker and Sen. Creem would require the state to analyze data that has already been collected so that we can better understand how guns are ending up in our communities. This bill will ensure that Massachusetts remains a leader in evidence-based gun violence prevention policy. Learn more about the bill here.

Now we need your help to get the bill across the finish line. Here's what we are asking you to do:

  • Find your senator and representative's contact info here. You can make a phone call, send an email, or do both!

  • Check to see if your legislator is a cosponsor of the bill. You can see a list of cosponsors on the fact sheet linked above.

  • If your legislator is a cosponsor of the bill thank them for their support.

  • Regardless of whether or not your legislator has cosponsored, call or email your legislator to tell them that you support H.2437/S.1562, along with a one sentence description of what the bill would do.

  • Ask your representative to contact Speaker Mariano and Chair Michlewitz to urge them to move the bill to the floor for a vote.

  • Ask your senator to contact Senate President Spilka and Chair Rodrigues to urge them to move the bill to the floor for a vote.

  • Thank your legislator or their staff member for their time.

It's that simple! Your advocacy makes a real difference, as legislators need to hear from their constituents on why they care about an issue.
